Moll twins finish fourth and eighth in Wanda Diamond League debut in Poland...
Competing on a sunny Friday afternoon in the town square of nearby Katowice, the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Meeting, the twelfth stop on the season long Wanda Diamond League tour, got underway with three women's events contested outside the stadium--the shot put, high jump and pole vault.
Washington's Hana Moll (photo courtesy Memorial Kamila Skolimowska Meeting), who along with her twin sister Amanda, was making her Wanda Diamond League debut, finished fourth with a best of 15-1 (4.60m).
Amanda finished eighth with a best of 14-9 (4.50m).
After first attempt makes at their opening height of 14-1.25 (4.30m), the twins needed third attempt makes at the next bar of 14-5.25 (4.40m) to advance to the next height.
At 14-9 (4.50m), Hana made on her second attempt, while Amanda needed three tries to clear the bar.
Amanda, knowing that a make at the next height of 15-1 (4.60m) would only advance her marginally in the standings, opted to pass to the next bar of 15-5 (4.70m), while Hana continued at 15-1.
Hana cleared that height on her second attempt.
At 15-5 (4.70m), the twins missed on all three tries.
France's Marie-Julie Bonnin won the event, as the only one to clear 15-5 (4.70m).
In other news, Washington's Sophie O'Sullivan, who was originally on the start list in the women's 1500, has withdrawn. Washington alum Gianna Woodruff is still on the start list for the women's 400 hurdles.
The meet resumes Saturday morning, with streaming coverage on Flotrack ($) in the USA starting at 7 am Pacific time.
In early action at the NACAC Championships in Freeport, Bahamas, Washington State alum easily won his heat of the 400 hurdles Friday morning.
Allen ran 49.29, the fastest time of the two heats, to win his heat by almost a second.
In Friday night's session, Lake Stevens native Taylor Roe, who is trying to ensure her spot to Tokyo in the women's 10000, will race that event at 7:45 pm local time (4:45 pm in Seattle) in an effort to get the bonus points to lock her place at world championships.
