Katie Moon finishes third at Rabat Diamond League stop...

RABAT, Morocco--
Former Pullman resident Katie Moon (file photo courtesy Wanda Diamond League) finished third in the pole vault Sunday night at the Meeting International Mohammed VI de Rabat, the third stop of the Wanda Diamond League tour.

After clearing the opening bar of 14-7.25 (4.45m), the reigning world and Diamond League champion needed a third attempt to clear 15-1 (4.60m) to move on to the next height of 15-5 (4.70m).

Moon, along with the three other women left in the competition, cleared that bar on their second attempts.

2024 Olympic champion Nina Kennedy of Australia was the only woman to clear 15-9 (4.80m) and took the win.

Moon finished in a tie for third with Switzerland's Angelica Moser, while Imogen Ayris of New Zealand finished second on fewer misses at the same height of 15-5 (4.70m).

Washington alum Gianna Woodruff, competing in her season debut over the 400 hurdles, finished fourth in 54.08, as Slovakia's Emma Zapletalová won in a world leading time and Slovakian national record 52.82.

Washington alum Amina Maatoug was the pace setter in the women's 1500, taking the field through 800 in 2:08, before stepping off the track.

Ethiopia's Freweyni Hailu won in a time of 3:58.25.

The Wanda Diamond League tour continues in Rome on Thursday June 4th with the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala meet.
