Brandon Miller of the Brooks Beasts finishes third in 800m at Shanghai Diamond League stop...

KEQIAO, China--
Brandon Miller (Paul Merca file photo) of the Brooks Beasts raced to a third place finish in the men's 800 at the season opening Shanghai stop of the Wanda Diamond League tour Saturday night at the Shaoxing China Textile City Sports Center stadium.

Miller, a 2024 US Olympian, positioned himself well, going through the first 400 meters in a hair over 51 seconds, tucked in behind the pacer and Australia's Luke Boyes.

Going into the homestretch, Miller was positioned on the outside just behind Boyes. He briefly held the lead as Boyes faded, but both Botswana's Kethobogile Haingura and Ireland's Mark English snuck past Miller on either side of him. English took the win in a meet record 1:43.85, with Haingura second in 1:43.89. Miller finished in a time of 1:44.00, currently the eighth fastest time in the world this season.

The women's steeplechase saw Woodinville native Olivia Markezich finish 11th in 9:22.15, while former Seattle Pacific All American and world championship team member was one spot behind in 9:24.26.

Perut Chemutai of Uganda won in a world leading time of 8:51.47.
