Gonzaga alum Yacine Guermali (PATAFA photo) races in the finals of the men's 5000 meters at the Asian Games track and field competition early Tuesday morning at 4:15 am Pacific/8:15 pm local time at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya, Japan.

Guermali, a Vancouver native who attended Camas HS, will represent the Philippines in the meet, where he has a season best of 13:36.43, run back in April at the Virginia Challenge meet.

He set a Philippine national record in the 3000 in May at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix meet in Tokyo, where he ran 7:46.62. Guermali ran 14:15.34 to win the Philippine national championships in June.

Guermali, who became eligible to compete for the Philippines in 2024, also holds national records in the 1500 (3:40.87), and 5000 (13:28.40).

During his time at Gonzaga, Guermali ran at the NCAA cross country championships twice, with his highest finish 41st in 2022.
