Redhawk men sixth at Saint Mary's Invite; Eastern women third at Montana Open, plus Athlos LDN...
In Concord, California, the Seattle University (photo courtesy Seattle University) men finished sixth, while the women finished ninth at the Saint Mary's Invitational, hosted by Saint Mary's University at Newhall Park Friday.
The opening men's 8k saw Jeremy Posdon lead the way with a 16th place finish in 23:42, followed by Preston Schmidt in 23rd in 23:53.
Roman Radecki was 33rd in 24:03, followed by Jovanny Lieb in 24:04, and Mateo Cafaro in 51st in 24:32.
The team, which had three freshmen in their top five (Schmidt, Lieb and Cafaro) finished with a 1-5 split of 50 seconds.
Mario Giannini of Chico State won the race in 23:04 to help lead his squad to the team title with 30 points. SeattleU finished with 135 points.
In the 6k race, senior Diana Camargo Solis paced the women’s team to a ninth-place team finish in the field of 15 teams. Camargo Solis placed 38th overall in 21:45.
Emma Bellomy was 45th in 21:58, followed by Rio Tabion in 47th in 22:02. Lydia Dale was 55th in 22:07, and Aavi Bass closed out their scorers placing 71st in 22:19. The team's 1-5 split was 34 seconds.
Elle Marsyla of UC San Diego won in 20:13. Chico State were the team champions with 39 points, while SeattleU finished with 226 points.
“I’m pleased with how the teams raced for each other today,” said SeattleU acting head coach Alex Jensen. “It was good to get the rust off for the 20 who competed and we had some really strong performances that we’ll continue to build on.”
In Missoula, Montana, Eastern Washington's women's team finished third at the Montana Open, hosted by the University of Montana Friday afternoon.
Sara Sanders led the way for the Eagles with her tenth place finish in 18:41 over the 5k course. Sanders was followed by Rhiannon Davies in 14th in 19:04, then it was Ifechi Okoye in 21st in 19:27.
Hannah Lee was 25th in 19:38, and Emma Tomlinson was their fifth runner across in 34th place in 20:07. The Eagles finished with a 1-5 split of 87 seconds.
Idaho's Constanze Paoli won the race in 17:12, while Montana State took the team title with 24 points, followed by Idaho's 53 and Eastern Washington's 88 points in the nine-team field.
The men's 8k race saw the Eagles' Owen Higgins and Charlie Ledwith finish together in 22nd and 23rd place in 25:44 and 25:47.
Behind them were Trajn Swalstad in 25th in 25:49, followed by Evan Cheney in 29th in 26:02, and Conner Wirth in 37th in 26:19, as the Eagles ran a 1-5 split of 35 seconds.
Sam Ells of Montana State won in 24:16, as his team placed their five scorers in the top eight to win with 21 points, followed by Montana in second with 69. Idaho was third with 86 and the Eagles were fourth with 117 points in the twelve-team field.
In London, Juliette Whittaker of the Brooks Beasts and Washington alum Sophie O'Sullivan finished fourth and fifth in the Athlos LDN26 women's only meet at StoneX Stadium Friday night.
Whittaker ran 2:00.46, while O'Sullivan finished in 2:00.53, as British favorite Keely Hodgkinson delighted the partisan crowd with a meet record 1:56.40.
