Hana Moll wins third Diamond League meet in a row and takes home Diamond League title...
BRUSSELS--Washington's Hana Moll (Dan Vernon/Wanda Diamond League photo) won her third straight Wanda Diamond League meet and came away with the Diamond Trophy in winning the women's pole vault at the Van Damme Memorial, the fifteenth and final meet of the Diamond League circuit.
Unlike her win in Zürich, where she needed third attempt clearances at lower heights to advance to the next bar, the rising senior had no issues, making the first five heights--14-5.25 (4.40m), 14-11 (4.55m), 15-5 (4.70m), 15-9 (4.80m), and 15-11.25 (4.86m)--all on first attempts.
Meanwhile, Switzerland's Angelica Moser, who started at 14-11 (4.55m), matched Moll on first attempt makes, until the bar got up to 15-11.25 (4.86m).
At that height, with everyone eliminated except Moll and Moser, Moser, who jumped first in the order, missed, while Moll answered with a make.
Moser elected to pass her two remaining attempts, knowing she was now behind on misses, and raised the bar to what would be a personal best of 16-1.25 (4.91m).
Moser missed her two remaining attempts, as did Moll, to give Hana the win with one attempt remaining.
On Hana's third and final attempt, she answered with a make to set a new Washington outdoor school and collegiate record. She also tied the ultimate collegiate record set by sister Amanda at last year's B1G Ten Indoor championships in Indianapolis.
The mark ties Amanda for fourth on the all-time US list in the event with only Jenn Suhr, Sandi Morris, Katie Moon ahead of the twins.
Moll closed the day with three misses at 16-3.25 (4.96m).
Afterwards, she told reporters in the mixed zone, "I feel great, it took a lot of work to get here and then the perfect execution on the day to take home the trophy. I have a lot of great people around me that believe in me and have made nice steps in joining them in that belief. My first two Diamond League wins definitely helped me in not being overwhelmed going into this Final. Any bar over 4.90 is incredible, but it's pretty special to now have the same PB as my sister Amanda".
