Vikings remain at number nine in latest USTFCCCA D2 men's poll ahead of Lewis Crossover...
NEW ORLEANS--The Western Washington men's team (Jeff Evans/WWU Athletics photo) kept their grip on the number nine spot in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II coaches poll released Wednesday.
The Vikings had the week off after winning their opening meet of the season, the Bill Roe Classic in Ferndale on September 26th.
There was a minor change in the top five, as Western Colorado dropped to number 7. The nation's top five teams are in order: Wingate, Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, West Texas A&M, and Grand Valley State.
Western Oregon is the only other team in the men's poll who is ranked, as the Wolves maintain their number 23 position.
No women's teams from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference are ranked in the national top 30 in this week's poll.
Adams State, Wingate, Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State, and Western Colorado are the nation's top five women's teams.
Both Western Washington teams, along with the Central Washington women's squad, have an opportunity to make their cases to the national voters this Saturday wehen they run at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois, just outside of Chicago.
Western Washington is the highest rated men's team in the field at the Lewis Crossover, with host Lewis ranked at number 10 and Saginaw Valley State ranked number 11.
Colorado Christian at number 20, Western Oregon at number 23, Anderson (South Carolina) at number 25, and number 30 Alabama-Huntsville are the other ranked men's teams in the field.
Twelfth ranked Lewis, number 16 Findlay, number 18 Winona State, number 23 Biola (California), and number 26 Saginaw Valley State are the ranked women's teams in the Lewis Crossover field.
