Amos Bartelsmeyer wins German national title in 1500 meters...

In Berlin, Germany, University of Washington volunteer coach Amos Bartelsmeyer (left/photo by Paul Merca) won his first German national title in the 1500 meters Sunday at the Berlin Olympiastadion, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 34,350.

Bartelsmeyer, the Georgetown alum and St. Louis native who moved west to Seattle to train under University of Washington head coach Andy Powell, went into Sunday’s final after winning his semifinal on Saturday in a time of 3:51.02.

Sunday’s final turned out to be a tactical affair, with the first 400 run in just over 68 seconds, and the second 400 at an even more pedestrian 71 seconds.

The real racing began after 800 meters, as Bartelsmeyer took the field through 1200 in 3:16.91, a 57.75 lap.

He finished his last 400 in 52.11 for a final time of 3:56.34.

Afterwards, he said, It's an incredible feeling to win the title, I'm very happy (to win the national championship).”
