Small contingent heads to Des Moines for Saturday's Drake Blue Oval Showcase...

One of the few domestic track & field meets happening this weekend is the Drake Blue Oval Showcase meet that will be contested Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The meet gets underway at 9:30 am with the USATF One Mile road race championship, which has traditionally been held as part of the annual Drake Relays.

In the women's road mile, Karisa Nelson (photo by Paul Merca) of the Brooks Beasts is entered, along with University of Washington hall of fame member Katie Mackey, a former winner of this event.

Pasco HS alum Marisa Howard is also entered, as is UW volunteer coach Alli Cash.

Seattle resident and UW volunteer coach Sam Prakel is entered in the men's road mile race, as is Iowa native Erik Sowinski of the Brooks Beasts.

On the track, former Renton resident and 2016 Olympic finalist Devon Allen will race in the second section of the men's 110 hurdles.
