WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Katie Nageotte ends season with personal best...
In Marietta, Georgia, former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (left, with coach Brad Walker/photo courtesy Katie Nageotte) wrapped a bow to the end of her 2020 outdoor season by clearing a personal best at the American Track League series meet Saturday at Life University.
Nageotte cleared 16-1.75 (4.92m) to take the victory and in the process became the third best performer in American history outdoors behind only American record holder and reigning world indoor champion Sandi Morris at 16-4.75 (5.00m) and 2012 Olympic champion Jenn Suhr at 16-2 (4.93m).
She entered the competition with a outdoor season best of 15-10 (4.83m), also set at Life College on July 18th.
Courtesy of her Instagram account, here's video of her vault, which is the best jump in the world in this weird 2020 season:
In the same competition, West Seattle HS grad Chloe Cunliffe failed to clear a height.
In a separate Instagram post, Nageotte announced that she is ending her 2020 season, stating, "And with yesterday’s meet, I’m calling it a season. This year has been weird to put it VERY lightly. A few years ago if I had had to train with no meets, I couldn’t have done it. I cannot thank these people (and John) enough for making training so fun but still pushing me, even without competitions for most of the year. You guys are the reason this season has gone so well for me, and I can’t say thank you enough! And now..I’m happy to have a long rest season before an Olympic preseason!"
