Wynne wins in near PB at Under Armour Sunset Tour in Azusa...
AZUSA, California--Henry Wynne (Paul Merca photo) of the Brooks Beasts came oh-so-close to his personal best in winning the men's 1500 at the Under Armour Sunset Tour on the campus of Azusa Pacific University Sunday night.
Wynne, who finished fifth at the US Olympic Trials in the 1500 last month, ran 3:34.22 to take the victory over a strong field that included runner-up Charles Philibert-Thiboutot of Canada (3:34.43) and Oregon alum Johnny Gregorek (3:34.49).Washington State All-American Paul Ryan was fourth in a personal best 3:36.48, while UW alum Izaic Yorks of the Brooks Beasts was sixth in 3:38.07.
The Virginia alum's winning time is also under the 3:35.00 standard for next year's world championships in Eugene.
Brannon Kidder of the Beasts also ducked under the world championships qualifying standard of 1:45.20 as he finished second in the 800 in 1:44.99. Festus Lagat won in 1:44.47. Drew Windle of the Beasts was sixth in 1:52.72.
Karisa Nelson of the Beasts was second in the women's 1500, as she ran a personal best 4:05.20, exactly one second over the 2022 world championships qualifying standard of 4:04.20.
Washington alum Eleanor Fulton was fourth, also in a personal best 4:05.33, while Pasco HS alum Marisa Howard also notched a personal best in fifth in 4:08.85.
Washington alum Mel Lawrence finished ninth in 4:12.65.
In the men's 5000, Garrett Heath of the Brooks Beasts was fifth in 13:41.95, just in front of Kirkland native Dillon Maggard, who was sixth in 13:43.37. Washington alum Fred Huxham was seventh in 13:44.17.
Camas native Alexa Efraimson was fifth in the women's 800 in 2:05.71.
