Both Husky track & field teams in national top 20 in latest USTFCCCA D1 indoor index...

NEW ORLEANS--
Both University of Washington indoor track and field teams are now ranked in the nation's top 20 in the latest USTFCCCA Division I National Indoor Track & Field Rating Index after the Huskies competed in the UW Invitational over the weekend.

The Washington men went from being outside the top 25 to number 20 thanks to strong performances in the mile by Brian Fay (Paul Merca photo), Luke Houser in the 3000, and Connor Jost in the weight throw.

Fay's time of 3:55.14 ranks number 3 in NCAA Division I after this past weekend's competitions.

Houser ran 7:52.84 in the 3000 to rank number 15 nationally, while Jost's mark in the weight throw of 70-6.5/21.50m ranks him number 12 in D1.

All three marks set this past weekend were lifetime bests for the Husky trio.

The nation's top five men's squads are in order: North Carolina A&T, Texas Tech, Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky.

Pac-12 schools in the national top 25 include number 13 Oregon, and number 14 USC.

On the women's side, the Dawgs moved up eight spots to number 13, thanks to the performances of its distance medley relay team, along with individual marks by Carley Thomas and Anna Gibson in the 800, and Allie Schadler in the mile.

The distance medley relay team of Madison Heisterman, Thomas, Gibson and Schadler ran 11:00.83 to post the fifth fastest time in school history to take the win.

Thomas and Gibson both ran identical times of 2:05.40 in the 800, while Schadler ran 4:35.18 in the mile.

The top five women's teams in Division I are in order: Florida, Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, and LSU.

Pac-12 teams in the national top 25 include number 12 Oregon, and number 22 USC.

Unlike past iterations of the national indoor track and field index, only marks from the current season are used to rank teams.

STUFF WE MISSED, ETC...

In Saturday's post on the New Mexico Team Challenge, we missed Laurie Barton's win in the 800, as she took the victory in 2:06.63 over former Beasts teammate Karisa Nelson's 2:06.98.

On Sunday, former Spokane prep standout John Dressel, now running for the North Carolina based Puma Elite team, finished 11th in the 3000 in the men's portion of the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.

Dressel ran 7:56.24, as his teammate Patrick Dever won in 7:43.57.

The second day of the Boston University meet, originally scheduled to run as a Friday-Saturday meet was split from the women's because of the threat of heavy snow in the Boston area.

Results from the second day of the John Thomas Terrier Classic are available here.
