UW women's squad ranked #21 in first USTFCCCA D1 track & field rating index...

NEW ORLEANS--The University of Washington women's team finds itself ranked number 21 in the first edition of the NCAA Division I women's indoor track & field rating index released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday.

The index is compiled solely of current marks from the 2022 indoor season, unlike previous ranking indexes, which used marks from the previous season up until the final meets before the conference championships.

The Huskies are led in the rankings by milers Madison Heisterman (Paul Merca photo) and Anna Gibson, who are ranked numbers 3 & 6 in the country after the conclusion of meets over the weekend.

They are joined by 3000 meter runners Allie Schadler and Haley Herberg, who are ranked number 11 & 15, while pole vaulter Makenna Barton at number 22 is the only field event performer ranked.

The nation's top five ranked women's teams after the first edition are in order: Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, Texas Tech & Florida.

The Huskies are the only team from the Pac-12 currently ranked in the national top 25 (all the Pac-12 schools have left the MPSF, despite the conference not sponsoring indoor track).

Arizona State at number 17, and USC at number 25 are the only two Pac-12 schools ranked in the men's national top 25 index.

The men's national top five are in order: Texas, Kentucky, Texas Tech, North Carolina A&T, and Northern Arizona.
