Both WWU Viking squads remain in national D2 top 30 heading into Bill Roe Invitational...

NEW ORLEANS--
In the second regular season USTFCCCA coaches' Division II poll released Wednesday, both Western Washington squads remain in the national top 30, as they head into their first significant test of the season this Saturday.

The Viking men's squad moved up one spot from last week's number 10 to sit at number 9.

Western Washington opened its season with a convincing win at the Puget Sound invitational in Lakewood on September 2nd, placing all five scorers in the top ten.

The Vikings are the only GNAC school in the national top 30, after previous number 28 Simon Fraser, despite winning the Pacific Lutheran Invitational last Saturday, dropped out of the top 30.

The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, Wingate, Grand Valley State, and Colorado Christian.

The Viking women's squad moves up two spots from last week, as they are ranked number 27 in the national poll, despite having the week off after placing the top 15 runners across the line and scoring a perfect 15 at the Puget Sound Invitational, led by winner Ashley Reeck and third place finisher Mia Crocker (above/Paul Merca photo).

Like their male counterparts, the Vikings are the only team from the GNAC ranked in the national top 30.

There were no changes in the nation's top five D2 women's teams. They are in order: Adams State, Grand Valley State, Colorado School of Mines, Winona State, and UC-Colorado Springs.

Western Washington hosts the Bill Roe Invitational this Saturday at Lake Padden Park in Bellingham, featuring all four Washington GNAC schools, plus Simon Fraser, Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks.
