Five runners with UW ties head to Rovereto for Wednesday's Palio Citta' Della Quercia meeting...

With only a few significant meets left in the 2023 outdoor season, five athletes with Washington ties are entered in Wednesday's Palio Citta' Della Quercia meeting in Rovereto, Italy.

Days after setting personal bests over 1500 meters, recent University of Washington grads Brian Fay (Paul Merca photo) and Kieran Lumb are entered in the men's 3000 meters in Rovereto, where they'll face Italy's Mohad Abdikadar Sheik Ali, who won the 1500 in Padova on Sunday in a personal best 3:33.79 over the Husky duo.

Also entered in the race is Oregon alum James West of Great Britain, as well as US Olympian Grant Fisher of the Nike Bowerman Track Club.

Alum Amy-Eloise Markovc and current Husky Sophie O'Sullivan are both in the women's 3000 meter race.

They'll face a field that includes Sinclaire Johnson of the Portland based Nike Union Athletics Club, Rose Davies of Australia, and Hanna Nuttall of Great Britain.

UW school record holder Carley Thomas takes what appears as her final shot over 800 meters this season, as she faces a field that includes Colorado alum Sage Hurta-Klecker, along with Vivian Kiprotich of Kenya.

The meet will be streamed on Flotrack ($) starting at 11 am Pacific time.
