Viking women's squad makes big jump in latest USTFCCCA D2 coaches' poll...

NEW ORLEANS--
The Western Washington women's team (WWU Athletics photo), who finished sixth at last Saturday's Lewis Crossover in Illinois, was the biggest beneficiary of the USTFCCCA Division II coaches' poll, as they were the biggest movers, rising from number 27 to number 15 in the poll released Wednesday.

At the Lewis Crossover, the Vikings beat three nationally ranked teams, and came within two places of overtaking number 9 ranked Colorado Christian.

The nation's top five women's teams are in order: Grand Valley State, Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Western Colorado, and Lee (Tennessee).

In the men's poll, Western Washington dropped one notch from number 11 to number 12 after the Vikings finished fourth in the Lewis Crossover.

The Vikings are one of two GNAC schools in the national top 30, as Alaska Anchorage jumped ten spots to number 20 in the poll after the Seawolves finished sixth at the Lewis Crossover.

Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State, Wingate, Adams State, and Colorado Christian are the nation's top five teams, with GVS & Wingate tied for second.

All four Washington GNAC schools are idle this week as they prepare for the conference championship meet next Saturday in Anchorage.
