Washington and Gonzaga women remain in USTFCCCA national top 30 poll...
NEW ORLEANS--The week 4 edition of the NCAA Division I men's and women's cross country national coaches poll published by the USTFCCCA saw both the Washington and Gonzaga women's teams drop down several notches from their previous positions heading into last weekend's meets.
The Huskies (Paul Merca photo), who finished 13th at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Wisconsin on Friday, dropped from number eight to number 19 in the poll, while Gonzaga, which was ranked 27th in the week 3 poll, dropped one spot to number 28.
Northern Arizona, which won the Nuttycombe, overtook previous number one North Carolina State, which dropped to number two.
The rest of the national women's top five include, in order: Georgetown, BYU, and Stanford.
Pac-12 teams in the national top 30 include number 9 Oregon State, number 14 Oregon, number 20 Colorado, and number 21 Utah.
The Zags, which won the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, are the only team from the West Coast Conference in the women's national top 30.
On the men's side, Gonzaga, which was ranked number 23, dropped out of the national top 30 after finishing 26th at Nuttycombe.
The Zags were missing Evan Bates and Kyle Radosevich from their lineup in Madison.
Washington, which finished one spot behind Gonzaga, and were missing several runners at last week's meet in Madison, received votes but are outside the national top 30.
The top five teams in the nation according to the coaches' poll are in order: Nuttycombe champ Northern Arizona, Oklahoma State, BYU, Syracuse, and Cal Baptist.
Pac-12 teams in the national top 30 include number 9 Colorado, and number 25 Stanford. No teams from the West Coast Conference are in the top 30.
The next coaches' poll releases October 31st, after the conference championship meets around the country.
