Central's E'lexis Hollis takes fourth in NCAA D2 60 meter dash...
PITTSBURG, Kansas--Central Washington's E'lexis Hollis (CWU Athletics photo) earned a fourth place finish in the finals of the women's 60 meter dash at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University Saturday.
In perhaps one of the tightest finishes, Hollis was nosed out for the third spot by long time nemesis Marie-Eloise Leclair of Simon Fraser, as they crossed the line together in identical marks of 7.36. However, Leclair got to the line in 7.351 to Hollis' 7.355.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Alexis Brown won the race going away in 7.18, with Minnesota State's Denisha Cartwright second in 7.30.
Western Washington senior Marian Ledesma earned a spot on the podium placing eighth in the 800-meter race. After qualifying for the final with the second-fastest time in the prelims with a lifetime indoor best 2:08.57, Ledesma clocked 2:12.23, as Alaysia Brooks of Ursuline (Ohio) won in 2:06.97.
Viking junior Kevin McDermott was aiming for a podium finish in the 3000m race, but got tripped up nearly midway through the race and finished 16th overall in a time of 8:27.38.
Central's Emy Ntekpere finished 13th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 39-8.75 (12.11m), as Jonon Young of Cal State LA won at 43-3.25 (13.19m).
Her teammate Drew Klein could not climb out of the first day hole he set, as he finished 14th in the heptathlon with a final score of 4977, despite tying for second in his best event, the pole vault, where he cleared 15-3 (4.65m), worth 804 points.
Cale Kassen won the event with a final score of 5801 points.
Host Pittsburg State won the men's team title with a final score of 69 points, while Adams State won the women's team crown with 67 points.
