UW alum Kieran Lumb finishes 13th in world indoor 1500m finals...

GLASGOW, Scotland--
Washington alum Kieran Lumb (Paul Merca photo) of Canada finished 13th in the finals of the men's 1500 meters on the final day of competition at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Sunday evening at Emirates Arena.

Because of appeals made by Great Britain's Adam Fogg and Ethiopia's Biniam Mehary from heats 1 and 3 on Friday, the field for Sunday night's finals were expanded to 14 men instead of the 12 originally scheduled.

The expanded field didn't seem to affect Lumb, who got to a decent start, though there was a little bit of pushing and shoving, but nothing out of the ordinary, as he went through the first 400 in second at 58.90.

At the halfway point, Lumb appeared to be running comfortably in seventh, but on the outside of lane one with enough room to cover a move.

Just past the two minute mark, Lumb was thrown off stride by Mehary, but was still in a decent position to respond.

As the field got to the bell, Lumb could not respond to the sharp acceleration put on by the front runners, dropping from seventh to 11th in a course of 40 meters, which essentially dropped him from contention, as the Vancouver, BC native finished 13th in 3:41.37.

Northern Arizona alum Geordie Beamish of New Zealand moved from seventh to first over the last lap to win in 3:36.54. Oregon alum Cole Hocker of the USA was second in 3:36.69, while world road mile champion Hobbs Kessler of the USA was third in 3:36.72.
