Washington State's Lee Walburn (Paul Merca photo) along with a select group of athletes from Central Washington head to Austin, Texas for the four-day Texas Relays, which begins Wednesday with the decathlon.

Walburn looks to improve upon his fifth place finish in last year's Texas Relays decathlon, where he set his personal best of 7323 points.

Teammate Mason Mahacek, who competed at the NCAA indoor heptathlon championships in Boston, is being given a rest week, and will open his outdoor season later.

Central Washington will send to Austin its women's 4 x 100 meter relay team, along with sprinter Josh Green, hurdlers Josh Boast and Aiden Wise, and javelin thrower Branden Wise.

NCAA indoor qualifiers E'lexis Hollis and Lauryn Chandler are also entered in individual events at the Texas Relays.

A larger group of Wildcats will head 45 minutes south of Austin to San Marcos to compete at the Bobcat Invitational and Multis starting Thursday, hosted by Texas State University.

GNAC indoor heptathlon champion, Drew Klein, will compete in his first decathlon of the outdoor season. GNAC indoor pentathlon champion, Ellie DeGroot, will also be competing in her first outdoor multi of the season, in the outdoor heptathlon.

The eight Wildcats competing at the Texas Relays are also slated to compete at the Bobcat Invitational.

The Texas Relays will be live streamed on ESPN+ ($).  Live results of the Texas Relays are available here.
