Brock Eager gets sixth at Tucson Elite Throws Festival, plus the weekend ahead...

The final weekend of the regular season in the collegiate ranks is this weekend, while on the pro side, the Tucson Elite and USATF Throws Festival gets the field event specialists some much needed competition.

Day 1 of the Tucson Elite Throws Festival was contested Thursday evening at Drachman Stadium in Tucson, hosted by the University of Arizona.

In the men's hammer, Washington State alum Brock Eager (Paul Merca photo) finished sixth with a best of 237-7 (72.42m), as Denzel Comenentia of The Netherlands won with a toss of 249-9 (76.12m).

The men's discus saw Spokane native Josh Syrotchen finish twelfth with a best of 185-3 (56.46m), as Jamaica's Fedrick Dacres took the win with a throw of 209-3 (63.79m).

The meet resumes Saturday with the USATF Throws Festival, which is a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, as a Silver Level meet, with valuable World Rankings points available to the top finishers.

Only a handful of Washington schools are in action this weekend, starting with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who, along with Central Washington and Seattle University, head to Eugene to compete in Friday night's Oregon Twilight.

The only other school who is active this weekend is Seattle Pacific, who will send a group to McMinnville, Oregon for the Linfield Open on Saturday.

SOME MISSES...

One results we missed from last week was in the Wanda Diamond League stop in Shanghai, where Washington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle finished 16th in the women's 5000 meters.

Batt-Doyle ran 15:06.84, her second fastest time of the season, but short of her personal best of 14:59.18, which she ran in Melbourne in February.

Mekedes Alemeshete of Ethiopia won in a world leading time of 14:36.70.
