TUCSON--Washington State grad Brock Eager (Paul Merca photo) threw a season best 246-11 (75.28m) to finish fourth in the hammer at the USATF Throws Festival Saturday afternoon at Drachman Stadium.
On a warm, yet comfortable day in the Arizona desert, Eager started slow with an opening round toss of 240-11 (73.45m), then improved to 246-0 (74.99m) in the second round.
He then fouled in rounds 3 and 4 before throwing 242-1 (73.80m) in the fifth round.
In round 6, he put everything together to throw his season best of 246-11 (75.28m), beating his previous season best of 243-5 (74.19m) on April 14th.
Daniel Haugh of the United States took the win with a best of 259-2 (79.01m).
In the other event involving a thrower with Washington ties, Spokane native Josh Syrotchen was 12th in the men's discus, throwing 185-6 (56.55m).
Joseph Brown of the United States won with a throw of 211-10 (64.57m). For Brown, that was actually his second win of the day, winning the Saturday portion of the Tucson Elite meet in the morning, throwing 208-4 (63.50m).
The best mark of the meet came in the women's hammer, as 2022 world champion Brooke Andersen threw a stadium record 262-2 (79.92m), breaking the old record of 259-3 (79.02m) that she held from two years ago. That throw was also the furthest throw in the world so far this season.
