Who with Washington ties has qualified for the US Olympic Track & Field Trials?

For those on the cusp of qualifying/not qualifying for the US Olympic Track & Field Trials, which begins Friday June 21st in Eugene, Oregon, time is ticking to either get the outright qualifying standard to enter the meet, or in events where there aren't enough qualified athletes, get close enough to the standard to get added to the field.

The qualifying period to get a mark for the Trials ends on June 9th, which means there are ten days remaining to achieve the standard.

BEN STENSLAND OFFICIALLY NAMED HEAD TRACK/XC COACH AT WESTERN WASHINGTON...

Long time Western Washington assistant coach and interim head coach Ben Stensland (WWU Athletics photo) had the interim label removed Friday, and is now the head coach of the Vikings, according to a release from the school Friday.

Since the retirement of Pee Wee Halsell during the 2023 indoor season, Stensland has helped lead the Vikings to eight Great Northwest Athletic Conference team titles during his time as the leader of the program. WWU swept the podium winning all six possible team titles during the 2023-24 academic year in men's and women's GNAC championships for cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.

"We are beyond thrilled to make this announcement official for our track & field and cross country program," said WWU Director of Athletics Jim Sterk. "Ben has proven to be a great leader of our student-athletes during his time as an assistant coach and interim head coach. Making this step is a natural fit for Ben and our program. He is a true Viking and can't wait to see all the great things ahead for this program."
