Mason Lawyer of Washington State enters NCAA transfer portal...

The fallout from Washington State's decision to move to a distance-only program has begun.

Two days after Washington State essentially gutted their track and field programs by cutting field events, and letting go of three assistant coaches, including sprint coach Gabe Mvumvure, one of the big dominoes has fallen.

Mason Lawyer (Paul Merca photo), who qualified for last week's NCAA championships in Eugene in the 100 and 200, and ran the second leg on the Cougars' 4 x 100 relay team, announced in an Instagram post that he is entering the transfer portal.

He ran the second leg of the Cougars' 4 x 100 meter relay team, as the team of Bryson Stubblefield, Lawyer, Parker Duskin and Keenan Kuntz ran 39.09 to beat the previous school record of 39.24 was set in 1991 by George Ogbeidi, Tony Li, Benari Burroughs, and Augustine Olobia.

Lawyer came back to finish third in the 100 meters, in a barely wind aided (+2.1) 9.95, which would have blown away the existing school record of 10.17 set by Olympians Anson Henry in 2002 and Louie Hinchliffe two years ago.

Just over an hour later, Lawyer broke the school record of 20.52 set by Anson Henry in 2002, running 20.34 to get yet another ticket to Eugene.

Freshman sprinters Lahela and Zoe Ray have also announced their intention to enter the transfer portal.

There will be more moves coming.
