WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Lumb wins men's 1500 at Brooks PR; UW's Neilson inducted into USTFCCCA Hall...

As we are in Eugene in preparation for this week's NCAA championships, here's a recap of what happened over the weekend:

In Renton, there were three pro races contested in conjunction with the Brooks PR Invitational meet at Renton Stadium.

The men's 1500 saw Washington alum Kieran Lumb (Paul Merca photo) lead a 1-2-3 finish from UW men's coach Andy Powell's pro group.

Lumb ran 3:34.25 to win convincingly over fellow alum Sam Ellis' 3:37.92, and Seattle resident Sam Prakel's 3:39.11.

“I think with these races, it’s pretty simple,” Lumb told media partner RunnerSpace.com. “You just get on the pacer (Washington's Rhys Hammond and Ronan McMahon-Staggs) and try to run the first 1200 as smooth as you can… it’s really all about the last 300. I think a lot of people can get to 1200 okay, and fewer people can close well.”

Valery Tobias of the Brooks Beasts won the pro 800 in 2:02.00, over Washington senior Claire Yerby's 2:02.69 and Teagan Schein-Becker's 2:03.59.

Brannon Kidder of the Brooks Beasts won the pro 800 in 1:46.11 over teammate Isaiah Harris' 1:46.30.

In the high school boys 800, Justin Northwest HS (Texas) sophomore Cooper Lutkenhaus broke the long standing national 800 meter record of 1:46.45 set by Michael Granville in 1996, running 1:46.26.

Incoming Washington freshman Owen Powell from Mercer Island, who won the Class 3A titles at 800 and 1600 last week, finished second in a personal best and Washington high school all-time best of 1:46.63, which is now the 6th fastest all time high school mark.

Many of the area's pro athletes will compete at next Sunday's Portland Track Festival at Lewis & Clark College.

In Innsbruck, Austria, Washington alum Nastassja Campbell finished fifth at the International Golden Roof Classic Saturday.

Campbell cleared a best of 14-2.5 (4.33m) as Elina Lampela of Finland won with a best of 14-6.25 (4.43m).

NEILSON OFFICIALLY INDUCTED INTO USTFCCCA COLLEGIATE ATHLETE HALL OF FAME...

University of Washington alum Scott Neilson (Paul Merca photo) was officially inducted into the USTFCCCA Collegiate Track & Field Athlete Hall Of Fame at a ceremony at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene Sunday evening.

Neilson was part of a twelve-athlete class that included 1983 world champion Bert Cameron of Texas-El Paso, 1968 Olympic 800m champion Madeline Manning-Mims of Tennessee State; UCLA high jump great Amy Acuff; and 1984 Olympic 800m champion Joachim Cruz of Oregon.

The hall of fame members entered the Hult Center through a special red carpet set up outside the building where the public could take pictures of the athletes.

After being introduced to the crowd, the athletes were interviewed individually by former ESPN anchor Neil Everett after a video clip was shown.

Upon the conclusion of the event, the hall of fame class split for photos in the lobby.

Neilson was greeted by a host of Washington track and field alumni, including legendary Husky hall of fame coach Ken Shannon, who had been battling health issues the past two years, but made the trip to witness his athlete receive the highest honor for a collegiate track and field athlete.
