Washington women ranked number 16 heading to NCAA champs in Eugene...
NEW ORLEANS--With the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field championships set for next week, the USTFCCCA released its pre-NCAA championships rating index Tuesday.
As was the case before the NCAA First and Second Round regionals contested in College Station (West) and Jacksonville (East), the rating index reflects those who will actually compete in Eugene next week in their respective events.
The Washington women go into the NCAA championships ranked number 16, down three from before the regionals.
The only top 20 mark that came from the regional meet was Sophie O'Sullivan (Paul Merca photo), who improved her collegiate season best of 4:08.69 from the Bryan Clay meet in April, when she ran 4:08.21 to win her heat on Saturday.
Going into the national championships, the top five women's teams are in order: Georgia, Texas A&M, USC, Baylor and Oregon.
Illinois at 12, 13th ranked UCLA, and number 21 Iowa are the only other Big Ten women's teams in the top 25.
Gonzaga's two entries in the 10000--Rosina Machu and Logan Hofstee, has the Bulldogs ranked number 82.
On the men's side, Washington State is ranked number 43, while Washington is at 45.
Mason Lawyer's barely (+2.1) windy 9.95 in the 100 at regionals has him ranked number 7, while the 4 x 100 relay team of Bryson Stubblefield, Mason Lawyer, Parker Duskin and Keenan Kuntz broke into the national top 20 with their school record 39.09.
Washington's three entries into next week's nationals didn't record a new top-20 mark.
The national top five on the men's side are in order: USC, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia, and South Florida, which broke into the top five for the first time all season.
Big Ten teams in the national top 25 include number 8 Nebraska, number 10 Minnesota, number 22 Iowa, and number 24 Wisconsin.
