NEW ORLEANS--After conference championship weekend for the state's five NCAA Division I schools, there were no significant changes in the USTFCCCA Division I national coaches poll released Tuesday.
Washington State's men's team (photo courtesy WSU Athletics) , which won the West Coast Conference championship Saturday in Spokane Valley, maintained its spot as the nation's number 11 team, and are the state's only men's squad ranked nationally.
Oklahoma State moved into the number one spot ahead of Iowa State after beating the Cyclones at the Big 12 Conference championship meet last week.
New Mexico, Virginia and Syracuse round out the top five in the men's poll.
Men's teams in the national top 30 from the West Region include number 7 Oregon, number 17 Cal Baptist, and number 29 Boise State.
In the women's poll, the three Washington schools who were nationally ranked in the last poll stayed in the top 30.
The University of Washington bounced back with a fourth place finish at last week's Big Ten championships in East Lansing, Michigan, and the voters rewarded the Huskies, as they moved up two spots to number 18 from two weeks ago.
Despite winning the West Coast Conference, Washington State dropped two spots in the national poll to number 24, while Gonzaga, who made the WCC meet close with the Cougars, also dropped two spots in the poll to number 28.
The nation's top five women's teams are in order: BYU, North Carolina State, Florida, Oregon, and Notre Dame.
The only other women's team from the West Region that is ranked is number 14 Stanford.
The nine NCAA regional cross country championships will be held Friday November 14th, with the West regional run in Sacramento.
The top two teams in each of the nine regional championships will automatically advance to the national championships in Columbia, Missouri, with the NCAA track & field and cross country committee filling the rest of the field after the regionals to make a 32-team field.
