Maya Ewing of Seattle Pacific selected to at-large berth for NCAA D2 cross country championships...

INDIANAPOLIS--
Seattle Pacific's Maya Ewing (SPU Athletics photo) was selected by the NCAA Division II track & field and cross country committee as an at-large individual entry into the NCAA Division II cross country championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on November 22nd.

Ewing, who won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference individual title over two weeks ago, finished eighth at the West Regional cross country championships in Monmouth, Oregon, despite a stumble near the halfway point of the women's 6k race to finish in a time of 20:52.

"I'm really excited to go run at nationals," Ewing said. "I feel really good about how the season has gone so far. The last two races have been confidence boosters for me and the team. I've raced against a lot of good competition recently, and was able to run competitively with them. We've been working on running even splits, which is a strategy that has been hard for me in the past. I've been able to reengage recently and run with confidence, and I can't wait to compete at nationals."

"Really happy for Maya," SPU distance coach Eric Hansen said. "She's had a great season. Glad to see all of her hard work pay off. We had a little scare at regionals with the fall, but glad she's still going to get a shot to compete at the NCAAs."

Ewing, who was a finalist at the NCAA D2 track & field championships last spring in the steeplechase, will make her first appearance at the cross country championships. She was one of four individuals not on a qualifying team selected out of the West region.

The Seattle Pacific senior will join both Western Washington squads, who were automatic qualifiers to the national championships. The Western men placed second, while the women finished third in Monmouth to punch their tickets to Kenosha.

Western Washington was the only women's team out of the Great Northwest Athletic conference to qualify for nationals, while on the men's side, Alaska Anchorage and Northwest Nazarene, which placed fourth and fifth at regionals, were selected as at-large entries into the national championships.
