Portland's Matt Strangio newest member of Brooks Beasts...

SEATTLE--
The Brooks Beasts announced the signing and addition of University of Portland alum Matt Strangio (Paul Merca photo) to the Seattle-based squad's roster Thursday.

Strangio finished sixth in the 5000 meters at the NCAA outdoor championship meet in June, where he ran a then personal best of 13:23.28.

He then lowered his personal best a month later when he ran 13:20.56 at the Morton Games in Dublin, Ireland.

During his career as a Pilot he amassed 5 school records from the 1500m to the 5,000m, including bests of 3:36.95 for the 1500m and 3:55.53 for the mile.

Strangio was an NCAA All American in cross country last year when he finished 22nd at the national championships in Verona, Wisconsin. At Portland, he was also the 2023 West Coast Conference cross country champion.

He qualified twice for both the NCAA indoor (3000m) and outdoor (5000m) championships during his career at Portland.

Before Portland, he was a two-time California state champion in cross country and a two-time state champion on the track, in the 1600m and 3200m while competing for Jesuit High School in Carmichael, CA.

Brooks Beasts head coach Danny Mackey said, “We are very excited to add Matt (Brooks Running photo) to the Beasts roster.  Matt comes from a very strong University of Portland culture, he’s going to bring a high-level work ethic and confidence to the squad.  I’m already looking forward to Matt debuting for Brooks next month at the US Cross Country Championships”

Brooks sports marketing senior manager Garrett Heath said, "Matt is one of the nation’s most promising distance talents and brings an unwavering dedication to his training every day. He embodies resilience, humility, and a team-first mindset - all qualities that align with the Brooks Beasts culture of excellence and community. His dedication to growth and leadership, both on and off the track, makes him an exciting addition as he begins his professional journey with the Beasts."
