Husky redshirt freshman Elijah Mason finishes seventh in discus at NCAA championships...

AUSTIN, Texas—University of Washington redshirt freshman Elijah Mason (above/photo by Mike Scott) finished seventh in the discus on the final night of the men’s competition Friday at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Mason spun the platter 191-3 (58.29m) on his first attempt to become the first Husky scorer in this event since Ben Lindsey’s fifth place finish in 1998.

Teammate Jonah Wilson was 20th with a throw of 178-10 (54.50m).

In other finals Friday, Washington’s Mick Stanovsek (left/photo by Ricky Martinez) finished tenth in the 1500 meters, running 3:45.64.

Colfax native John Dressel of the University of Colorado finished 14th in the 5000 meters in a time of 14:18.03.

Eastern Washington junior Keshun McGee finished 18th with a best of 51-9 (15.77m) on his only fair jump in the second round.

Washington State’s Mitch Jacobson cleared 7-0.5 (2.15m)in the high jump, good for 19th place, and a personal best, while teammate Peyton Fredrickson was tied for 20th in with a clearance of 6-10.75 (2.10m).

In the heptathlon, Pac-12 champion Hannah Rusnak of the University of Washington finds herself in eighth place after the first day of competition.

She started the day with a personal best of 13.51 in the 100 hurdles, then got another personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-6.5 (1.69m).

In the shot put, she got yet another personal best with a throw of 41-10 (12.75m), then finished the day with a run of 24.85 in the 200 meters, finishing with a first day score of 3503, 369 points behind leader Tyra Gittens of Texas A&M, who has 3872 at the break.

Saturday, Rusnak continues in the heptathlon, while teammate Darhian Mills goes in the finals of the 400 hurdles. University Place native Lexi Ellis of the University of Oregon goes in the triple jump as the NCAA championships concludes.

You have missed highlighting an athlete with Washington connections. Michael Rhoads, Inglemoor graduate and 2015 4A Washington State 400 meter champion He runs for Air Force Academy and placed 6th at Nationals on Friday night with an Academy record of 1:46.58. He was 8th in the indoor 800 in the winter. He just finished up his junior year.
