Rusnak breaks school heptathlon record for third time, but finishes ninth at NCAAs; Mills takes 7th in 400 hurdles...

AUSTIN, Texas—University of Washington sophomore and Pac-12 champion Hannah Rusnak (left/photo by Mike Scott) finished ninth in the heptathlon on the final day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas with a school record 5779 points.

Rusnak, who started the day in eighth place, nearly broke her personal best in the long jump, stretching the tape to 19-7.5 (5.98m), just short of her 19-9 (6.02m) she set at the Pac-12 combined events championship in Tucson.

In event six, she threw a personal best of 141-3 (43.05m) in the javelin, eclipsing her previous mark of 141-2 (43.03m) set at the Pac-12s to put her in third entering the 800 meters.

The 800 meters were Rusnak’s undoing, as she only ran 2:28.90, almost 4 seconds over her personal best of 2:24.93, as six athletes passed her in the final event.

Nonetheless, Rusnak becomes the first Husky to earn second team All-America honors in that event.

Washington junior Darhian Mills (above/photo by Ricky Martinez) finished seventh in the finals of the 400 hurdles in a time of 57.76, earning the Inglemoor HS grad her All-America certificate and a top-8 trophy.

Mills' seventh place finish ties the highest placing by a Husky in the 400 hurdles (Mari Bjone in 1991) at the NCAA championships.

With the points earned by Mills, the Huskies finished with 14 points and a tie for 17th place.

Former Husky Charlotte Prouse, now competing for New Mexico, finished second in the 3000 steeplechase, running a personal best 9:44.50.

University of Oregon freshman Lexi Ellis, a graduate of Curtis HS, finished 23rd in the triple jump, with a best of 41-10 (12.75m).

Arkansas won the NCAA title with a final score of 64 points, unseating defending champ USC, who scored 57 points.
