QUERETARO, Mexico—The University of Washington’s Katie Rainsberger (above, #147/photo courtesy University of Washington) finished second Sunday in the 1500 meters at the NACAC U-23 Championships.
Rainsberger, a native of Colorado Springs, ran 4:30.86 in the 6000 foot altitude of Queretaro, as Mexico’s Alma Delia Cortes took the win in 4:28.37, with the USA’s Alexis Fuller from Boise State and Union HS in Camas third at 4:36.60.
Rainsberger was an All-American in cross country for the Huskies back in the fall, taking 19th-place at NCAAs, and then was seventh in the NCAA Indoor mile final for First Team All-America honors, in her first year at Washington, after transferring from the University of Oregon.
Washington State’s Charisma Taylor (left/photo courtesy WSU Athletics), representing the Bahamas, finished third in the triple jump, with a wind-aided mark of 43-4.5 (13.22m, +2.5) on her fourth attempt.
On her previous attempt, she set a personal best, jumping 43-3.75 (13.20m) with a aiding wind of +0.2 meters per second, well under the allowable.
In the first round, she snuck past the previous WSU school record of 42-10.25 (13.06m) set by Cicely Clinkenbeard in 2000, by jumping 42-11.75 (13.10m).
Taylor, who was sixth at the Pac-12s in May, got on the podium at the expense of Oregon's Chaquinn Cook, the Pac-12 triple jump champion.
Davisleydis Velazco of Cuba took the victory, jumping a wind-aided 45-9 (13.94m, +3.5).
