Kara Winger finishes ninth in javelin at Müller Anniversary Games in London...
In London, Skyview HS alum and three-time US Olympian Kara Winger (left/photo by Paul Merca) finished ninth in the javelin Saturday at the Müller Anniversary Games contested at London Stadium, which is the tenth stop on the IAAF Diamond League tour.
Winger threw a best of 197-1 (60.08m), as Tatsiana Khaladovich of Belarus took the win with a toss of 216-10 (66.10m).
The meet resumes Sunday at London Stadium, with Washington volunteer coach Amos Bartelsmeyer competing in the men’s mile, incoming Washington freshman Carley Thomas in the women’s 800, and Washington alum Amy-Eloise Neale in the women’s 5000.

In San Jose, Costa Rica, US national champion Alex Slenning of the University of Washington finished fifth in the finals of the men’s steeplechase at the Pan Am Under-20 Championships at National Stadium.
The native of Portland, Oregon ran 9:27.74, as Cesar Gomez of Mexico won in 9:11.05.
In the men’s 400 hurdles, West Seattle HS grad Cass Elliott of the Huskies ran 51.10 to finish third and advance to Sunday’s finals.
Alison Alves of Brazil won the heat in 50.47. Elliott’s US teammate James Smith from the University of Arizona won the other semi in 50.41.
