Huskies' Andrew Jordan, Mick Stanovsek & Cruz Culpepper shine at day 1 of Raleigh Relays...

RALEIGH, North Carolina--Washington's Andrew Jordan (photo courtesy UW Athletics) finished sixth in a very competitive men's 5000 meters to highlight competition in the first day of the Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track on the campus of North Carolina State University.

Jordan ran 13:46.41, as Notre Dame's Yared Nuguse took the win in 13:40.62. Nuguse led 14 of the 19 starters in the fast section of the race under 13:57.

Going into Thursday, the fastest time in the young outdoor season was 13:59.31 by Hofstra's Alex Masai.

In a separate section of the men's 5000, the Huskies' Isaac Green won the race in 13:56.23.

Husky redshirt senior Mick Stanovsek finished fourth in the fastest section of the men's 1500, running 3:40.95, his fastest time since 2018, and just short of his personal best of 3:39.82, set while running at the University of Oregon.

Freshman Cruz Culpepper ran 3:41.29 to finish seventh, which set a new UW freshman record, surpassing the old class record of 3:42.84 set by Nick Harris in 2014.

The only Husky women who competed Thursday night were Andrea Markezich, Hannah Waskom, and Kiera Marshall, who ran the 10000. Markezich was 19th in the heat in 35:15.79, while Waskom was two places behind in 35:45.39. Marshall was 22nd in 38:30.40.

Friday, Pac-12 cross country champ Haley Herberg and All-American Katie Rainsberger lead a group of Dawgs in the 1500, while Shona McCullough is entered in the 5000.

KNIGHT LEADS WHITWORTH INVITE HEPTATHLON, WHILE ULLOA-DAZA BREAKS WSU FROSH HAMMER RECORD...

In Spokane, Madelyn Knight of Eastern Washington is the current leader after four events of the heptathlon at the Whitworth Invitational and Multi Events at Boppell Track on the campus of Whitworth University.

Knight won the 100 hurdles (15.14) and the 200 (26.21) to go into the break with a 2826 point first day score, 51 points ahead of Washington State's Peyton Teevens.

Nicholas McGill of Whitworth is the leader in the decathlon after five events, with a first day total of 3548 points, 209 points ahead of Eastern Washington's Quintin Porterfield's 3339.

McGill won the long jump (22-2.5/6.77m) and the high jump (6-3.25/1.91m), while Porterfield won the 400 (50.74).

Carolina Ulloa-Daza of Washington State won the hammer with a toss of 195-8 (59.65m), breaking her own freshman record and moving into second on the school's all-time list.

Emily Coombs won the pole vault for the Cougars, clearing 12-10.75 (3.93m).

The meet resumes Friday with the conclusion of the multi-events, and numerous events on the docket.
