Huskies' Jayden White finishes tenth in weight throw at NCAA indoor champs...

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas--
In only the fourth meet of his collegiate career, University of Washington freshman Jayden White (photo courtesy University of Washington) finished tenth in the 35-pound weight throw at the NCAA Division I indoor track & field championships at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

The Everett native had an inauspicious start to his debut in the biggest stage of collegiate track and field, fouling his first two throws, before getting a mark of 69-6.25 (21.19m) that temporarily put him ninth and in a position to get three more throws if the mark held up.

Unfortunately, the penultimate thrower in the field of 16, Manning Plater of Illinois, came through with a third round throw of 72-8.5 (22.16m) to knock White down one spot out of the finals, where he ultimately finished tenth.

Still, it caps off an amazing first indoor season, as White became the Husky school record-holder this year, breaking a mark that had stood since 1979. He also becomes UW's first men's weight throw All-American since Neil Kneip in 1986, as White earns second team All-American honors with his tenth place finish.

Thomas Mardal of Florida won the event with a toss of 80-3 (24.46m), more than two feet better than runner-up Israel Oloyede of Arizona's 78-0.75 (23.79m).

Friday, the Huskies have six entries going, while Washington State has three entries competing. Also, former Husky and Pullman HS grad Angel Nkwonta is in the women's shot put for the University of Maryland.

The start list and the time schedule for the NCAA indoor track and field championships are available here. Don't forget that ESPN3 is offering live streaming coverage of the meet starting at 9 am pacific.

EASTERN WASHINGTON & SEATTLE UNIVERSITY OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON SATURDAY AT OREGON STATE...

While the Huskies, Cougars, and Gonzaga Bulldogs have athletes competing at the NCAA indoors and Monday's NCAA cross country championships, Eastern Washington and Seattle University open up the 2021 outdoor season at the PNW Team Clash with Portland State, Western Oregon, and host Oregon State University in Corvallis.

For both Eastern and SeattleU, this is the first track meet that both schools have participated in since last year's Big Sky and Western Athletic Conference indoor meets near the end of February.

The single-day meet hosted by OSU will begin at 11 a.m., Pacific time with the field events, and the running events following at noon.

While the other four Division I schools in the state--Washington, Washington State, SeattleU, and Gonzaga have not posted their full outdoor schedule, Eastern has posted their schedule, and it is tentatively limited to meets in the Pacific Northwest, with no meets outside Washington, Oregon & Idaho until the Big Sky championship meet in Ogden, Utah.

One significant addition to the Eagle squad is grad transfer Emmy Engle, who comes over to EWU from the University of Washington, where she was an NCAA West regional qualifier, and has a personal best of 150-4 (45.82m).

Eastern Washington's preview of the PNW Team Clash is available here, while start lists for the meet are available here.
