Emmanuel Wells picks up where he left off before the pandemic and wins 100m at USC Invitational...

LOS ANGELES--Emmanuel "RayRay" Wells (photo courtesy WSU Athletics) picked up right where he left off, as the Washington State University redshirt senior won the 100 meter dash at the USC Invitational at Loker Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Wells, who did not get the opportunity to race at last year's NCAA indoor championships as the meet was cancelled before it started because of the global pandemic, broke away from the field to win in a time of 10.38, currently the ninth fastest time collegiately.

In Friday's opening session, WSU's Carolina Ulloa-Daza competed in the hammer throw. Ulloa-Daza posted an impressive Washington State debut finishing second, with a throw of 191-feet 3 inches (58.30m), which is a WSU freshman record in the event, and is fifth best all-time in Cougar history as well.

Charisma Taylor continued her dominant streak, picking up where she left off during the indoor season, running a 13.45 in the 100-meter hurdles. That time from Taylor is the second-best all-time in Washington State history as well. Emily Coombs earned the win in the pole vault, posting a mark of 12-feet 11 1/2 inches (3.95m).

In Seattle, outdoor All-Americans Darhian Mills and Hannah Rusnak of the University of Washington each picked up a win in their season debuts at the Doris Heritage Track Classic at West Seattle Stadium, hosted by Seattle Pacific University.

Mills won the women's 400 hurdles in a modest time of 60.60, while Rusnak, a 2019 heptathlon All-America, won the high jump at 5-7 (1.70m).

Fellow Husky heptathlete Ida Eiking won the javelin at 164-7 (50.17m) and the shot put at 43-8.5 (13.32m). NCAA weight throw qualifier Jayden White won his UW debut in the hammer, spinning the ball and chain 198-2 (60.40m).

The Huskies got eight wins on the day, while host Seattle Pacific picked up five wins. Seattle University got four wins, and Western Washington took three wins.
