THE WEEKEND AHEAD: All nine Washington D1/D2 schools in outdoor action Friday & Saturday...
All of the state's nine Division I and II schools are in action Friday and Saturday, with the schools east of the Cascades competing in Friday's Whitworth Essential meet at Boppell Track on the campus of Whitworth University in Spokane; and Seattle University & the University of Washington, plus all four Washington Division Ii schools at the Doris Heritage Track Festival on Saturday at West Seattle Stadium, hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
Gonzaga will enter only their women's team at the Whitworth Essential meet, while Washington State will send a small group up to Spokane.
In contrast, Eastern Washington, fresh off of last week's performance at the PNW Team Clash hosted by Oregon State, will have a large number of entries.
Perhaps the meet's feature event is the men's 110 hurdles featuring Parker Bowden (photo courtesy EWU Athletics) of Eastern Washington, who set a new school record of 13.90 last week in Corvallis. Bowden faces Ben Doucette of Idaho, one of the Big Sky's top hurdlers, who was second at the 2020 Big Sky indoor championship.
In the 2020 indoor season, Bowden only beat Doucette once in five head-to-head meetings at the UW Invitational .
While no entries at the time of this post have been posted on the official meet timing company's website, all four of the state's Division II schools: Central Washington, Saint Martin's, Western Washington & host Seattle Pacific are expected to have close to full teams entered in the meet. The number of athletes that both Seattle University and the University of Washington will send across town is unknown.
Both meets are following state and local guidelines regarding COVID-19 protocols, so no spectators are allowed at either meet.
