Top ten marks by five Dawgs have Huskies ranked number 7 in first USTFCCCA outdoor ranking index...
NEW ORLEANS--After the first few weeks of outdoor competition around the country, the University of Washington men's track & field team finds itself ranked number seven in the first edition of the NCAA Division I men's outdoor track & field national rating index released by the USTFCCCA Monday.
For this season, the USTFCCCA is not using marks from previous seasons in creating the ranking index, meaning that means it will evolve more than years past and give a true glimpse of what teams are doing the best at the moment.
The Huskies are boosted with early top ten marks by Mick Stanovsek (photo by Paul Merca) in both the 800 and 1500; Cruz Culpepper, and Joe Waskom in the 1500; Andrew Jordan in the 5000; and Elijah Mason in the discus.
The country's top five men's teams after the first edition of the national track & field ranking index are in order: LSU, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas & USC.
Other teams from the Pac-12 ranked in the top 25 include number 8 Arizona, and number 10 Oregon.
The Washington women are outside the top 25 at number 42.
The nation's top five women's squads are in order: LSU, Texas, Arkansas, USC and Texas Tech.
There are currently no other teams from the Pac-12 ranked in the national top 25 after the first edition of the ranking index.
Washington returns to action this weekend at the Stanford Invitational
