WEEKEND RECAP: Saints sweep podium spots at Puget Sound Invitational...
Saint Martin's and Seattle Pacific closed out the first full weekend of cross country competition at the Puget Sound Invitational Saturday at Fort Steilacoom State Park outside Tacoma.
The Saints, under new cross country coach Matt Lowe, won the men's team race, and finished second in the women's team race, and swept the top spot on the podium in both races.
Freshman Sara Sabra (photo courtesy Saint Martin's Athletics) won the women's 4k race in 15:35, followed by Alisha Saucedo in 16:09.
Naomi Hartley was 11th in 17:07, with Kya Ramirez in 15th at 17:26, and Aliya Anekney in 17th at 17:47.
Pacific Lutheran won the five team meet wit a score of 34, followed by Saint Martin's at 44. Seattle Pacific, who was originally scheduled to run a women's team, did not compete.
In the men's 6k race, freshman Kainalu Pagente of Saint Martin's ran 19:03 to score a two-second win over Cayan Dibble of Green River College.
John Farrell was third for the Saints in 19:12, followed by Lance Slichko in 12th at 20:03, Michael Harwell in 13th at 20:06, and Rudu Wani in 20th in 20:39.
Colin Boutin was Seattle Pacific's top runner in eighth at 19:34, followed by Jon Owen in 16th at 20:10.
Seattle Pacific heads to Monmouth for Friday's Ash Creek Invitational hosted by Western Oregon, while Saint Martin's races at home on September 25th at the Ken Garland Invitational.
