Devon Allen wins Diamond League final in 110H at the Zürich Weltklasse...
ZÜRICH--Former Renton resident Devon Allen (Paul Merca photo) ran a season best 13.06 to win the 110 hurdles and the Wanda Diamond League championship Thursday night at the Zürich Weltklasse meet.
Allen, who was fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, got off to his customary strong start, but was pressed over the last few hurdles by Olympic bronze medalist Ronald Levy of Jamaica three lanes to his outside in lane 7.
As they came off the final hurdle, Allen and Levy dived for the finish line, with both credited with a time of 13.06, and Allen getting credit for the win.
While he collects the $30000 first place prize and the Diamond League trophy, Allen would have received a bye to next year's world championship as the reigning Wanda Diamond League champ, except that 2019 world champion Grant Holloway already owns the United States' bye for winning in Doha.
Washington alum Gianna Woodruff finished fifth in the women's 400 hurdles, running 54.20, as Femke Bol of the Netherlands took the Diamond League title in a meet record 52.80.
Former Pullman resident and Tokyo Olympic champion Katie Nageotte's bid to earn a bye into next year's world championships did not go well, as she failed all three attempts at the opening height of 15-0 (4.57m).
2019 world champion Anzhelika Sidorova of Russia won with a 2021 world leading clearance of 16-5.25 (5.01m), supplanting Nageotte's season leading mark of 16-2.75 (4.95m) set at the Olympic trials in Eugene.

COUGS HOST COUGAR CLASSIC FRIDAY EVENING...
Washington State will host the Cougar Classic Friday night at the Colfax Golf Club, featuring teams from both Gonzaga and Eastern Washington.
The meet gets underway with the women's 6,000-meter race starting at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time followed by the men's 8,000 at 5:45 p.m
Last week, the Cougars ran essentially an intrasquad race at the WSU Open on September 1st, while Eastern Washington hosted Gonzaga at the Clash of the Inland Northwest meet.
In a meet we completely missed, the Gonzaga women split their team and sent their top runners to San Francisco for the USF Invitational on September 4th, where they finished third behind host San Francisco (45) and Stanford (52), where the Bulldogs scored 97 points, with NCAA cross country qualifier Kristen Garcia finishing third in 21:22 over 6k.
Gonzaga is expected to run US Olympic Trials qualifier James Mwaura, who sat out last week's Clash of the Inland Northwest, which was won by teammate Yacine Guermali in 18:38 over 6k.
Washington State's release previewing the Cougar Classic is available here.
