Bulldogs jump all the way to number 13 in latest USTFCCCA D1 national poll...
NEW ORLEANS--After their seventh place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational last Friday, the Gonzaga Bulldogs (Paul Merca photo) jump all the way up to a program best number 13 in the latest USTFCCCA Division I national coaches' poll released Tuesday.
GU did all that without top-three runner Yacine Guermali, who was the Zags' fastest finisher at the Bill Dellinger Invite three weeks previous but did not race on Friday due to injury.
In contrast, Washington dropped from number 13 all the way down to number 26 after its 14th place finish at Wisconsin.
The nation's top five teams are in order: Northern Arizona, Iowa State, Colorado, Stanford, and Oklahoma State.
Other Pac-12 teams in the national top 30 include number 12 Oregon. From the West Coast Conference, BYU comes in at number 7, and Portland is at number 17.
On the women's side, the Huskies also took a hit after finishing 15th at Nuttycombe, dropping to 18th in the national poll.
After both Nuttycombe and the Florida State Pre Nationals, the national top five are in order: New Mexico, North Carolina State, BYU, Colorado, and Alabama.
Utah at number 8, and Stanford at number 23 are the only other Pac-12 teams ranked in the national top 30.
The focus turns to their conference championship meets, with the Division I schools running their championships October 29-30.
