Club Northwest's Tom Anderson wins men's 10k at Bill Roe WWU Classic...
BELLINGHAM--In a meet named after legendary Northwest track and field & running impresario Bill Roe, it was only appropriate that a runner from the track club that he founded won the men's 10k race at the Bill Roe Western Washington University Classic Saturday morning at Sudden Valley Golf Course.
Club Northwest's Tom Anderson (photo by Howard Lao) won the men's race, covering the 10k distance in 30:56 to outlast Boise State alum and Edmonds resident Miler Haller, who finished second in 31:32.
Aaron Ahl of Simon Fraser was the first collegian across the line in 31:32.
Host Western Washington packed four runners in the top 20 to finish second in the meet with 63 points, as number 5 Chico State easily won with 31 points.
In what could potentially be a great matchup at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet in two weeks in Lacey, the Vikings' second place finish at the Bill Roe Classic came at the expense of #17 ranked Simon Fraser, who scored 65 points in third.
Mac Franks of the Vikings raced to a 9th-place finish in 31:55, the 7th-best time among collegiate runners. Freshman Jeret Gillingham was just outside the top-10 placing 13th in 32:11, followed closely by Kevin McDermott in 14th place at 32:12.
Central Washington finished sixth with 175 points, led by Trevor Allen, who was 34th with a time of 33:08. Behind Allen, Rajesh Gill was 45th in 33:42. Henry Milodragovich broke into the 'Cats top three at 34:13, finishing 53rd.
Seattle Pacific's lone runner was Colin Boutin in 57th at 34:29.
In the women's 6k, Haverford College alum and Bainbridge Island native Amelia Keyser-Gibson, who attended high school at The Bush School, won the race by nine seconds, running 21:40 over Simon Fraser's Olivia Willett, who ran 21:49. Sally Crowther of Club Northwest was third in 22:00.
11th ranked Simon Fraser won the team title, scoring 41 points, followed by Club Northwest with 82 points, and number 14 Chico State with 102 points to get third.
Western Washington was fifth with 110 points, while Seattle Pacific was 7th with 176, and Central Washington was ninth in the field of ten teams with 246.
Senior Brittany Aquino led WWU finishing in 16th place in 22:55. Freshman Ila Davis (23:12) and junior Brook Wedin (23:12) crossed the finish line in 21st and 22nd place.
For Seattle Pacific, Annika Esvelt led the team in 19th in 23:09. She was followed by Ellie Rising in 28th at 23:28. and Nicki Yorges in 43rd in 23:59.
Central Washington's top three runners were Kay Lester in 50th (24:20), Madison Child in 52nd (24:39), and Tailer Cochran in 64th at 25:12.
