Vikings back in USTFCCCA D2 national top 30...

NEW ORLEANS--Western Washington's (photo courtesy WWU Athletics) second place finish at the Bill Roe WWU Classic last Saturday behind Chico State was a strong enough showing in the eyes of the voters of the USTFCCCA Division II poll to rank the Viking men as one of the nation's top 30 teams in the latest poll released Wednesday.

The Vikings, who were out of the top 30, clawed back to number 21 in the national poll.

The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Colorado School of Mines and Grand Valley State sharing the number one spot, followed by Adams State at 3, Augustana (South Dakota) at 4, and Colorado Christian at 5.

Simon Fraser is the only other ranked men's team from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, coming in at number 22, a drop of 5 spots from last week's poll.

On the women's side, Simon Fraser is the only GNAC team ranked in the national top 30, coming in at number 9 after easily winning the team title at the Bill Roe WWU Classic.

Adams State, Grand Valley State, Augustana (SD), Colorado School of Mines, and Lee (Tennessee) are the nation's top five women's teams in Division II.

Division II conference championships happen next weekend across the country, with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title meet on October 23rd in Lacey, hosted by Saint Martin's University.
