Seattle Pacific hosts Chambers Creek Open Saturday...
Seattle Pacific hosts Saint Martin's and Alaska Anchorage, along with nine other teams in Saturday's Chambers Creek Collegiate Open meet at Chambers Creek Regional Park (photo by Paul Merca) in University Place, just outside of Tacoma.
The meet will be a first look at the facility that will be the site of the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships. Seattle Pacific will host the meet, along with championships for men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey as part of the 2022 Division II Fall Festival.
The women's 5-kilometer race begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 10:00 a.m.
It is part of a day-long celebration of cross country. A community open 5K will precede the college races at 8:45 a.m. Following the college competition, the annual John Payne / Curtis Invitational will take place. That will have 11 races for high school teams and two for elementary / middle school athletes.
Those national championship races are scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022. The distances will be longer for that one – 6K for the women, 10K for the men. The competitive fields also will be much larger, with 34 teams for both men and women, plus individual qualifiers.
A pre-nationals meet, which is customary at any site that hosts the NCAAs, will take place at Chambers Creek during the early fall of 2022, although a firm date has not yet been finalized.
Chambers Creek already has hosted the Pacific-12 Conference Championships this past March.

The only other Washington Division II squad in action this Saturday is Central Washington, who heads to Salem for the Charles Bowles Invitational, hosted by Willamette University.
The Wildcats join the Washington men's team, along with both squads from Seattle University.
The men's Cardinal 8k for NCAA Division I, II & III teams gets underway at 9:30 am, while the women's Cardinal 5k starts at 10:20 am. Willamette will provide a live stream of the meet, as well as live results, which can be accessed via the school's cross country schedule.
