Andre Korbmacher of Bellingham wins twice in 110 hurdles at World U20s Thursday...


In Lima, Peru, Squalicum HS grad and Bellingham native Andre Korbmacher (FSU Athletics photo) advanced to the finals of the men's 110 hurdles at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships, winning both his first round and semifinal races Thursday.

In the morning session, Korbmacher easily won in 13.40, then followed it up with a personal best of 13.25 (39-inch hurdles used in high school and U20 competition as opposed to the 42-inch men's height) in the afternoon semifinals.

Korbmacher's previous personal best over the 39-inch hurdles was 13.31 set at the USATF U20 championships, where he finished second.

The Florida State University rising sophomore runs in the finals Friday at 3:25 pm Pacific/5:25 pm local time.

Also competing Friday is Bear Creek School grad and Duke freshman Braelyn Baker in the semifinals of the women's 400 hurdles at 1:35 pm Pacific/3:35 pm local time.

Rising sophomores Alex Rhodes of the University of Puget Sound, and Grant Buckmiller of Washington State are on the pool to run in the heats of the USA men's 4 x 400 relay at 10 am Pacific/noon local time.

However, relay team compositions won't be announced until shortly before the start of the race.


Peacock ($) is streaming the meet in the USA, starting at 7 am Pacific for the morning session, and 1:30 pm Pacific time.

GONZAGA, EASTERN WASHINGTON AND WASHINGTON STATE OPEN CROSS COUNTRY SEASON FRIDAY...

Gonzaga's men's and women's cross country teams, both of which have national championship aspirations, makes the short drive to Cheney to compete in the annual season opening meet Friday, the Clash of the Inland Northwest, on the practice fields at Eastern Washington University.

The women's 4k race starts at 8:30 am, with the men's 6k going off 30 minutes later.

Besides the Bulldogs and host Eastern Washington, teams from Idaho, Lewis & Clark, Spokane CC, and Whitman are scheduled to race.


Meanwhile, Washington State runs in essentially an intrasquad meet as it hosts the WSU Alumni Open at the Colfax Golf Club Friday afternoon.

The men's 6k kicks off racing at 5 pm, with the women's 4k getting underway 30 minutes later.


PRO NOTES...

Allie Buchalski of the Brooks Beasts is entered in the women's 5000 meters at the Stadioneröffnung Dresden meet in Dresden, Germany on Friday.

She's part of a group of six Americans in the field, including North Carolina State alums Elly Henes and Katelyn Touhy in the race which starts at 11:10 am Pacific/8:10 pm local time.

Former Washington State University sprinter Louie Hinchliffe, who transferred to the University of Houston, where he won the NCAA title as well as the British national title in the men's 100 meter dash, has elected to turn pro.

Hinchliffe, who won a bronze medal as the second leg on Great Britain's 4 x 100 meter relay team, announced his decision to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility in a post on Instagram:
