Josh Kerr gets a rematch with the other Olympic 1500m medalists in Zürich...

The Zürich Weltklasse Meeting, the penultimate meet of the Wanda Diamond League season on September 5th, announced that the top four finishers in the men's 1500 meters at the Olympics--Cole Hocker, Josh Kerr (Paul Merca photo) of the Brooks Beasts, Yared Nuguse, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, will face off against each other in a post-Olympic showdown.

Hocker was the beneficiary of Ingebrigten's decision to swing to the outside of lane 1 in the last straightaway of the 1500 to hold off Kerr, who was on the Norwegian's right in lane 2.

While Ingebrigtsen was concentrating on holding off Kerr, the gap he created was wide enough for the former University of Oregon All-American, who was boxed in with little room to run, to slip by and go past the two to claim the victory in an Olympic record 3:27.65.

Kerr hung on to claim second in a British national record 3:27.79, just holding off the late charge of Nuguse, who was third in 3:27.80.

Ingebrigtsen faded and finished fourth in 3:28.24.

The Wanda Diamond League circuit resumes on August 22nd with the Athletissima Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, then goes to Silesia, Poland, and Rome before the stop in Zürich. The Diamond League finals are in Brussels on September 13-14.

The University of Washington earlier in the week posted its 2024 cross country schedule.

The Huskies open the season on September 3rd, as they renew, after a short absence, the dual meet against Seattle University at Magnuson Park, north of the UW campus.

The team then heads to its pre-season camp before heading to Madison, Wisconsin on September 27, where they'll see Gonzaga at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.

The Nuttycombe meet, which is traditionally in mid-October, is moved up, as Wisconsin, which is hosting the NCAA championships in November, will host the Pre-Nationals meet on October 19th, which the Huskies will attend as well.

As one of the four new members of the Big 10 along with Oregon, UCLA and USC, the Huskies travel to Champaign, Illinois for the conference championship, hosted by the University of Illinois on November 1st.

The NCAA West Regionals will be contested two weeks later in Colfax, hosted by Washington State, with the season ending on November 23rd with the NCAA championships back in Madison.

Gonzaga has also posted their schedule, opening with the Clash of the Inland Northwest on August 30th, hosted by Eastern Washington. The Zags will then head to Colfax for the Cougar Classic on September 13th, where they'll preview the NCAA West Regional course.

They'll head to Wisconsin on September 27th to see Washington at the Nuttycombe, then the men's and women's teams will split in early October. The men will head to Springfield, Oregon for the Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon, while the women will take an extra week before going to College Station, Texas for the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.

The Zags head to Stockton, California on November 2nd for the West Coast Conference championship, hosted by Pacific University, before returning to Colfax for regionals, and Madison for nationals.

Eastern Washington and Washington State have not posted their 2024 schedule as of yet. That said, Eastern opens with their Clash of the Inland Northwest home meet on August 30th, and Washington State has the Cougar Classic on September 13th.

The Eagles head to the Big Sky conference championship on November 1st in Pocatello, Idaho, hosted by Idaho State, and the Cougars are in Stockton for the WCC championships.

All five Washington Division I schools will be at the NCAA West Regionals in Colfax on November 15th.

As of this writing, Seattle University has not yet hired a track and cross country head coach to replace Kelly Sullivan, though the position has been advertised for over a month. Their schedule isn't posted, other than the one meet with Washington on September 3rd.
