WSU alum Maribel Caicedo makes Wanda Diamond League debut in Silesia Sunday...

The Wanda Diamond League resumes Sunday with the Kamila Skolimowska Meeting in Silesia, Poland on Sunday, stop number twelve in the fifteen meet series that ends September 13-14 with the Diamond League Finals on Brussels, Belgium.

Before the two-hour television window begins at 7 am Pacific/4 pm local time in Silesia, recent Washington State grad Maribel Caicedo (Paul Merca photo), who advanced to the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, will make her Diamond League debut in heat 1 of the women's 100 meter hurdles semifinals at 5:59 am Pacific/2:59 pm local time.

Caicedo goes against a loaded field that includes former Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who was third in Paris; Cyréna Samba-Mayela of France, who finished second in Paris; Olympic finalist Grace Stark of the USA; and former world & American record holder Keni Harrison.

In the two heats, the top three in each, plus two time qualifiers, will advance to the finals just over 90 minutes later at 7:34 am Pacific/4:34 pm local time.

Seattle resident and Paris Olympian Nia Akins, whose departure from the Brooks Beasts last week has drawn attention from observers in the sport nationally, is entered in the women's 1000 meters, also before the television window opens. The 1000 meters is a non-Diamond League scoring event.

She'll face a field that includes Kenya's Mary Moraa, the reigning world champion and Olympic bronze medalist; Olympic finalist Jemma Reekie of Great Britain; and Jamaica's Natoya Goule-Toppin, who like Akins, was an Olympic semifinalist.

One of the top distance races in the program is the men's 3000 steeplechase, which features all three Olympic medalists: champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco; bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya; and silver medalist and Walla Walla native Kenneth Rooks.

Rooks set a personal best of 8:06.41 at the Olympics and was about 60 meters from pulling off what would have been a monumental upset, as El Bakkali zipped past Rooks to win the Olympic title.

The men's steeplechase goes off at 7:57 am Pacific time/4:57 pm local time.

Peacock ($) will stream the meet starting at 7 am Pacific.

Meanwhile in Tampere, Finland, Waleed Suliman of the Brooks Beasts is entered in the men's 1500 at the Motonet Tampere Grand Prix, where he'll face a field that includes Canadian Olympian Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, Germany's Sam Parsons, and Ireland's Cathal Doyle.

Former Washington Husky Wilma Nielsen of Sweden, who recently announced her intention to complete her graduate studies and athletic eligibility at the University of Oregon, is in the women's 800, along with her sister Julia.

Americans Sage Hurts-Klecker, McKenna Keegan, and Anna Camp-Bennett are also in the field.

The World Athletics Continental Tour - Bronze category meet gets underway at 7 am Pacific/5 pm local time.
