Washington schools in action on both sides of the state before the big Cali venture...

Before many of the Washington schools make the big journey to Southern California for the powerhouse meets at Mt. SAC, Long Beach State, and Azusa Pacific next week, eight of the nine Division I & II schools are in action this weekend.

On the east side of the state, Central Washington, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington and Washington State will send athletes to the Whitworth Peace Invitational on Friday, hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane at the Pine Bowl, in a meet that is primarily regional in nature.

Eastern Washington is expected to have their full squad competing, as they are competing for spots on their travel squad that's heading to California next week.

The meet gets underway at noon. The link to live results is available here.

Pacific Lutheran University will host the PLU Invitational on Saturday in Tacoma, with teams from Saint Martin's, Seattle Pacific, and Western Washington appearing in the meet.

Friday, the men's and women's hammer throws will be contested starting at 3pm, while the rest of the meet begins at 10 am with the women's 10000 on the track and the women's long jump.

The University of Washington will send its throwers to San Diego for the Triton Invitational, hosted by the University of San Diego.

Thanks to the prevailing wind conditions, the Triton Invitational has gained a reputation as one of the top mid-season throws competitions.

In addition to schools from southern California, the meet has a bit of an international flavor, with resident athletes from several countries training at the Chula Vista Elite Training Center (formerly the US Olympic Training Center) making the short trek to San Diego to compete.

Washington is sending eleven throwers to San Diego.

Friday will feature just two events, the women's hammer at 9:30 a.m. and the women's discus at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the men's hammer starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's javelin at 10:30 a.m. with the final event scheduled to be men's shot put at 4 p.m.

Washington's release is available here, while the link to live results is available here.
