Dillon Maggard wins 10000 at Payton Jordan Invitational...


STANFORD, California-
-Lake Washington HS alum Dillon Maggard (Paul Merca photo) won the men's 10000 Friday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University.

Maggard won in a time of 27:37.26 and overcame the challenge of Florida State's Adriaan Wildschutt, who ran 27:38.54, and Stanford's Charles Hicks, who was third in 27:40.16.

Maggard was short of the world championships standard of 27:28.00.

Washington's Tibebu Proctor was tenth in 28:38.34, just ahead of Seattle Pacific alum Turner Wiley of Club Northwest, who was eleventh in 28:40.15.

Washington alum Eleanor Fulton set a personal best in the 5000 meters Friday night in a second place finish. 

Fulton, who did not run her first serious 5000 meter track race until 2018 at this meet, ran 15:20.12 to finish just a hair over a second behind Vanessa Fraser of the Nike Bowerman TC, as the Stanford alum ran 15:19.11 to take the win.

Finishing in sixth was Washington's Haley Herberg, who ran 15:31.14, with teammate Allie Schadler seventh in 15:31.29.

Those times are the second and third fastest marks in school history, only behind Tokyo Olympian Amy-Eloise Neale's school record of 15:24.16 set in 2018.

In the men's 5000, Washington alum Jack Rowe of Great Britain was fourth in 13:26.37, while Tom Anderson of Club Northwest was sixth in 13:28.19.

In the men's 3000 steeplechase, Washington State's Colton Johnsen ran 8:39.38 to finish 12th in the top section, as Eastern Kentucky's Ahmed Jaziri won in 8:24.33, the fastest collegiate time so far this season.

In Fresno, UW hammer thrower Jayden White got action started at day 1 of the Fresno State Invitational by winning his event with a throw of 226-0 (68.88m), with teammate Connor Jost third at 205-7 (62.67m).

The women's hammer saw Washington State's Carolina Ulloa-Daza finish fourth at 196-9 (59.97m).

In Corvallis, Eastern Washington's Justin Roosma and Lilly Fetzer swept the men's and women's steeplechase races to highlight day 1 of the Oregon State High Performance meet hosted by Oregon State University.

Roosma ran 8:59.78 to win the invitational men's race, while Fetzer ran 11:03.85 to win the open women's race.

Eastern Washington also got wins from Garrett Peoples (180-2/54.91m) in the men's hammer, and from Braydon Freitag (16-0/4.88m) in the men's pole vault.

In Philadelphia, Laurie Barton of the Brooks Beasts finished fourth in the women's elite 800m at the Penn Relays.

Barton ran 2:03.97, as Sage Hurta of On Athletics Club won in 1:59.76.

In the men's elite 800, Drew Windle of the Brooks Beasts was also fourth in 1:48.30, as Great Britain's Kyle Langford won in 1:46.11.
