UW's Ida Eikeng leads Mt. SAC heptathlon at the break...


WALNUT, California--
Washington's Ida Eikeng (Paul Merca photo) set two heptathlon personal bests to grab the lead at the break of the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon Wednesday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College just outside of Los Angeles.

Eikeng, who finished fifth in the heptathlon at last year's NCAA championships, started the day by running 13.72 in the 100 hurdles. 

She tied her all-time personal best in the high jump of 5-7.75 (1.72m), then threw the shot 42-8.75 (13.02m) before running a heptathlon PR of 24.09 in the 200, just off her all time best of 24.01.

On the day, Eikeng finished second in both the 100 hurdles and the long jump, before winning both the shot put and the 200 to finish with a first day score of 3598 points.

Washington State alum Alissa Brooks-Johnson stands fifth with 3415 points, while Washington's Hannah Rusnak is ninth with 3303 points.

In the decathlon competition, Washington's Ollie Thorner stands eleventh with 3857 points, while Husky teammate Jami Schlueter is twelfth at 3679 points.

The Mt. SAC Relays multi-events competition resumes Thursday at 11 am with the decathlon 110 hurdles and at noon with the heptathlon long jump.

Thursday action on the track at Mt. SAC begins at 5 pm, with several heats of the steeplechase and the 10000 meter runs.

Ten miles away from Walnut in Azusa, multi event athletes from Central Washington, Eastern Washington, Western Washington and Washington State are competing in both the heptathlon and decathlon competitions at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University.

In Group C of the heptathlon competition, McCall DeChenne of Central Washington stands third with 2767 points, while Matty Lagerway of Western Washington in in twelfth with 2510 points. Hayden McAuliff of Eastern Washington is 16th with 2323 points.

In Group B, Peyton Teevens of Washington State is 14th at the break with 2925 points. Group A has Maggie Nelson of Eastern Washington in 24th at 2914 points.

Group C of the decathlon has Quintin Porterfield of Eastern Washington in third with 3467 points, In Group B, Drew Klein of Central Washington is tenth with 3204 points.
